Yay! Back At Our RV In Mormon Country Salt Lake City, Utah

You know how sometimes after a vacation you need a vacation? Well, after our cross-country drive, we definitely needed a rest. We got our RV out of storage in Idaho Falls and decided to take a slow-down in our touring. The RV started right up after a six week rest and was in good condition.
We took the 210 mile drive and stayed in Salt Lake City, Utah for a week. It was a hot week. Record temperatures in the 100's for four days and in the mid 90's on all the other days. Holy bison! Get it? We saw so many bison in Yellowstone the cow was out...
Below we're getting out of storage, unpacking, and showing proof of the record setting west coast heat wave.
We travelled 13 days from back home to the RV toting all of our refrigerator condiments and assundry snacks, drinks, and other perishables leftover from our stay at home. Brad, the ex-restauranteur, hates throwing away food. So every stop we brought our cooler into the hotel refrigerator before our ice packs melted. Unpacked it and packed it ups again the next day. Call us crazy, but it worked. Nothing spoiled!
We needed to food shop and guess what, there was a Farmer's Market that first day we arrived in Salt Lake City. We bought fruit, veggies and a little something-something for dinner. Homemade pappardelle, spicy sausage with Utah honey (from a Pennsy boy yet), different garlics, and organic mushrooms was the calling. Brad home-cooked up a delicious dinner which was much needed after eating out for 13 days. We took pictures of the types of garlic to see if we could taste and distinguish the difference. Nope!.
Of course while we were out, we had to do one of Brad's favorite things to do and that's visit the Capitol building. It was so pretty inside that people were doing professional family photo shoots and a handful of wedding parties were taking pictures too. We think the girl in the red gown was a wedding too, but, there were only guys and no bridesmaids. 🤷🏻 For those of you that know Brad well, he's showing off his lion tattoo in the pic below. And, you would also know that the lion at the Capitol looks way more ferocious than Brad's.
We don't really don't know how to rest because the next day we went to see what the Mormon's had to offer. We went to Temple Square and visited the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Mormon Conference Center and Tabernacle. Several young Mormon woman were stationed or were walking around providing information. They were angelic. We walked into an organ recital practice at the Tabernacle which was beautiful to listen to. Unfortunately, no choir but wow those organ pipes were huge, bellowing, and beautiful.
We stopped for lunch at what we thought was a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant called the Red Iguana that turned out to be great. We had to wait in line outside like Pepe's Pizza in New Haven. We lucked out and they gave us a tiny little private room. So much for first impressions. This place was award-winning Mexican.
Okay, okay, we didn't really rest a whole bunch. Two pool days. The next day we took a short trip to what we thought would be similar to the Bonneville Salt Flats which was where Larry was going to meet up with us. Since Bonneville was an hour and a half away, we decided to stay closer so instead went to Great Salt Lake State Park. There was plenty of salt, but it was so hot and stinky we headed back to the campground to hit the pool.
We like a good bike ride so Kathy sourced one. The Jordan River Parkway Trail was conveniently starting near our campground. Almost in it's backyard. We took a bike ride and then we headed to Antelope Island State Park. Great views, and yes, we got to see more Bison. After a few days of home cooking, we decided to go out to dinner. Brad found a great restaurant named Currents. He rocks sourcing the local restaurant scene. He rarely misses. Oysters and octopus to start off with and a table by the kitchen to make Brad feel at home. Yum-yum...and a personable, attentive, cute relocated waitress from Sarasota, Fla. took care of business for us.
Besides all of this running around, we went to a Chocolate Factory that we drove by several times. Chocolates and an ice cream. A little overpriced and a little underwhelming taste wise bt fun nevertheless. As you might already know, we like our Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. We did one in Salt Lake City and it was our first Triple D restaurant that sucked!. Hey, they can't all be winners but Guy is probably 12 out of 13 winners so far. Keeping us honest
Next stop is Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks for a 7 day stint. We're staying in between both. Then, to Arches National Park for 3 more. A tour of Utah's National Parks that we are very much looking forward to sharing with you. For additional entertainment, check out our YouTube videos. We recently topped a million views. Did you run into any of the housewives of salt lake city? Do you even know who they are? 😁
Such great pics of SLC. Can’t believe it was so hot there when it’s so darn cold here! Enjoy.
Another great travel log post! How were those organic mushrooms? Looked delicious in that dish!
