Son Of A…Myrtle Beach

Guess who wrote this blog. 😎

First time we came to Myrtle Beach we stayed a week, second time 2 weeks, this time a month. Guess what? We like it here. It took us 2 days to get there from Sarasota. Brad drove 7 hours the first day and 5 the next. Thirty thousand miles later he could drive an eighteen wheeler cross-country. He rocked it!

Our first outing was all day on our first Sunday. We left the RV park with food shopping in mind and winded up having a Bloody Mary at River City Cafe on Surfside Beach. We then headed to the beachfront with the chairs we always have conveniently located in the backseat of our car and sat on the beach for 3 hours.

That wasn't enough so we went to Murrel's Inlet and went to the Dead Dog Salon for beers and blue crab nachos. There was some kind of flea market festival at the Tuna Shack so we went over for a beer there too and listened to music. Our two-drink minimum is shot-to-$hit already!

You would think we were done after that, but our last pit stop was the Gracious Pig for brisket sandwiches. By then we were so full we both brought half our sandwiches home for breakfast.

What do you do in Myrtle Beach, play mini golf. They have more miniature golf places than anywhere in the US. Brad actually researched and picked the top 10 mini golf haunts and plans on going to all of them. Haha…this is the only one we went to the entire month. We didn't do that great. Brad scored 49 and Kathy 59 on a 38 par course. There were a lot of uphill holes 🥴

We worked up an appetite and had some Sushi which was delicious at King Kong Sushi at Broadway on the Beach. We wound going back here three more times for different events.

This area was really cool with restaurants, shopping and entertainment all round assorted waterways. Brad bought some beef jerky but not that colon cleansing sauce. Here’s the rub on Broadway on the Beach. We stopped at the Visitor’s Center and got four tickets to two shows for forty bucks. How? For a promise to appear at one of those stupid Time-Share sales seminars. We should have bough the tickets for full price!

Surprisingly, Both of these shows were AWESOME! Always something to do in Myrtle Beach. The first show we went to was “Legends in Concert" back at Broadway on the Beach. The impersonators were mimicking Bruno Mars, Jasen Aldean, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner and Elvis.

Besides mini golf, shows, beach and bar-hopping, you know what else there is to do in Myrtle Beach, you go to all you can eat seafood buffets. This one was not really that tasty but we like snow crabs and always get our money's worth at buffets. We were there chow-boning seafood for two and a half hours.

Oh, and Myrtle has huge-giant candy stores and ice cream shops everywhere. This ice cream shop advertisement made us think they put hot sauce on your ice cream. Every day we would drive by and say we needed to try it. Nope, they sold hot sauce in the ice cream shop. Good ice cream and great marketing to get you in the door.

At this point in time we’re only 12 days in with 15 more to go. We had a busy day which started off us leaving the RV at 11:30 to meet Kathy and Tom (our nephew-in-law's parents) for lunch. They live in Myrtle now after moving from CT. We always have a great time talking for hours with them. After that, we sat on the beach for an hour, ate ice cream at the hot sauce/ice cream store and then we went to karaoke night with Brad's comedy buddies Vinnie Mark, Scott Baker and friends whom we went to see the night before at the Comedy Cabana. We hung out with 8 other people and had so much fun we forgot to take pictures.

We met Kathy’s 1st cousin's daughter for the first time. She's originally from Arizona and moved to North Carolina last August. It was an hour drive away. We had such a fun time together. They have a beautiful home and they took us out on their boat for the day. We pulled up to a restaurant with the boat and had a couple of drinks. When we got back from the boat ride we picked up pizza and went to their home. 9 1/2 hours of spending time with people we never met before and it felt like we knew them forever. Hopefully we get the chance to hang out again sometime soon.

St. Patty's Day on Murrells Inlet is extremely entertaining. Six hours of eating, drinking, and people watching. Check out some of these outfits as yes Brad was wearing his green.

Brad's college 4th Floor Elwell Buddy Rick Mennitti and his wonderful wife Jan live in Charleston and came to stay on our campground, in a cabin, for a couple of days. We had a super-wonderful time hanging out with them! We met them at Brookgreen Gardens on their way up to visit with us. It's a sculpture garden and zoo among other things. The zoo was small and not much, but the sculpture garden was wonderful and the company even better.

On our way back to the campground Brad called an audible in which Jan immediately adapted too and we stopped for a beer at Voodoo Brewery. They just opened this year and the owner is from Connecticut. Brad loved the 9% double IPA he had a few days before so he wanted to share the experience with Rick and Jan. They went for the 5%😉.

The rest of their visit, we went to another all-you-can-eat buffet ( which was better than the first one), played Yahtzee, laughed, sat and walked on the beach, shot the $hit, and thouroughly, enjoyed their company. Oh yeh, we also had them over for dinner the night we played Yahtzee. We had salmon and asparagus with a hollandaise sauce, a 1905 salad and a couple bottles of wine the Mennitti’s brought over. Great times! A Great Hang!

We went to a show called La Grand Cirque. Another pair of our packaged Time-Share ticket package. It's like a mini version of Cirque de Soleil as far as production and the talent was great. It should have been called the Mini-America’s Got Talent Show. At least half of them were from the TV show. Kathy screamed 4 times and gasped another 10 times more.

Our last day we decided to take a four hour boat tour that dropped you off on an island to collect shells and driftwood for 1 1/2 hours. The captain talked the entire ride giving us the history. The 1 1/2 hours went by pretty quickly and Brad enjoyed a cigar and we shelled like we were on a mission on the beach. And, check out the other Phillie fans behind us. They had a bonding moment of course. Everywhere we go Philly fans. Brad got high-five a dozen times at Merrel’s Inlet wearing his Eagles green St Paddy’s Day too!

Why do we love Myrtle Beach? It's the closest we'll get to a home on the beach. We get to wake up in the morning to watch the sun rise, have ducks visiting, take a walk on the beach, chill at sundown, and enjoy retired life

Home for Easter with the family. We may have an August Canada trip to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick with a few additional days at Acadia National Park in Maine. Stay tuned! We are loooking forward to catching up with family and friends once we get back to Connecticut.   Thanks for reading our blog! Who wrote it? Much love, Kathy and Brad!
