Jacksonville was our first stop in the Sunshine State and boy what a pleasant surprise it was. We didn't know it was the most populated city in the state until we got there. And with that said there wasn't much action during the day in the downtown area but it sure was pretty. Located right on the Johns River the city had a lot of personality. Here are some pictures of our second day in Jacksonville. Which buy the way, was named after the first Governor of the city and eventual President of the United States Andrew Jackson.
After touring the downtown we hit-up a Diners. Drive-In and Dives restaurant called the 13 Gypsys. We finagled a reservation and boy did It Rock!
Our first day in Jacksonville was a travel day. So after our drive and setting up our campsite we often only have a half day that first day to do our thing. So, we went on a 13 mile bike ride which was uneventful until we ran into some other bikers who told us about a nature trail boardwalk. We found it and that was the only real cool part of the ride. The third day was a combination of a beach day (Brad went into the water for the first time, on our trip), we took an exploratory drive to the Kingsley Plantation (which looked like a drive through the forrest in the Wizard of Oz) and a stop at the Boneyard Beach.
The second leg of our Florida trip took us to the Daytona Beach area, New Smyrna to be exact. The first full day there we went to St. Augustine on Brad's sister Marci's recommendation. Great town except we didn't get there until late. A 1:30 arrival that afternoon was too late of a start for a one hour drive one way. It poured a bit while walking (yes with an umbrella) George Street and The Colonial Quarter, We were lucky to find out that one of our favourite restaurants, Columbia, was in St. Augustine. While we were waiting for a table we stopped by the gift shop and picked up some 1905 salad dressing, olives and a cigar ashtray. If you see the bridge down below, we started a bike a ride over it that we never finished. We never finished it because Brad got a flat tire a quarter of the way over it. This was the first of a handful of bad things that started to happen. We headed to Home Depot to get some material to fix the flat and then we ran into mechanical issues with both the car and the RV.
Thanks for following us....Stay tuned...The shit is about to hit the fan!

Bummer, sorry you had a few snags. I love Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. It would be fun to try as many as possible.
Beautiful pics in Jacksonville! Love the sunset!
