Myrtle Beach and Friends

This campground was the largest and busiest yet. Probably 1200 plus RV’s not including permanent campers. When we arrived at our campsite https://www.pirateland.com we knew when pulling into our site it was going to be interesting. We were greeted by a 4”11’ blonde women with a tooth missing (maybe two), beer in hand and shit-faced, in the middle of the afternoon. She said when we were pulling in “ I’m just gonna be a cheerleader”. Nope! Immediately, she starts trying to take over for Kathy and guide Brad into our spot. After much confusion, Brad had to tell her that there were too many cooks in the kitchen. She beat it after that. Then, we moved to a completely different spot...away from El Drunk-O. When we took off on this adventure, Brad said he wouldn't allow an Eagles game to dictate what we'd do on game-day. He hasn't missed a game yet. Eagles 21-Panthers 18 on this one.

Our nephew Chris gave us some recommendations for dinner and entertainment since he was there with his beautiful family the week before. He was visiting his folks which we did as well the next day. Our first night out we went to The Claw House for dinner, Dead Dog for a couple drinks, and strolled the Marsh Walk checking out the bars and live entertainment. Great start for our 5 day stay.

Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate, but, I guess we were overdue. We had a rain/thunderstorm the first night there. Torrential, but it sounds cool in the RV as rain pellets bounce off the roof but for having our campsite on the beach, it kinda sucked. We still had a great time meeting with friends, biking on the beach, playing miniature golf and taking care of household responsibilities and... that damn toilet. Since the weather kinda sucked Brad spent 5 hours under our electrical steps attempting a repair along with fixing our bathroom door and never took out our outdoor furniture.

The next morning we met Kathy and Tom Morse (Chris' parents and Sherry's In-Laws) for breakfast. We chatted for two hours then went back to their house after. Their house was lovely and it was great spending time with them. We went to Market Commons which was unexciting and then Myrtle Beach State Park. We were toting our bikes, as we often do and for the first time we went bike riding on the beach. That was really cool. We went so far we we landed back at our campsite. Brad said, let’s go check out this campground on the beach like ours. DUH! It was our’s.

They must have 50 miniature golf places in Myrtle beach. Kathy kicked Brad’s butt. Probably the only game she'll win at. Oh, almost forgot, she did win in 500 gin rummy. ONCE!

We also got to hook up with Brad's grammar school friend Ann Lewine Kuntzmann and her husband Ken. They were staying at the campground next door for the past month. Kudos for facebook that they knew we were in town. We spent quality time on the beach with them and then went to Suck Bang Blow (another one of Chris's suggestions) that evening for a drink. It was a cool biker bar, lot's of character, great wings and wonderful company. It was awesome catching up after 40 years.

Next stop Charleston, SC. Stayed tuned.

It sure sounds like you are meeting up with an interesting 'slice' of America. I half expected a photo of your greeting committee. That biker bar, what a name! It sure looks like you are having a blast.

Nice entry. They play the miniature golf championship there every year. Added - they have some of the most beautiful and challenging putt putts in the world 👍

OMG - haven’t been to Myrtle in a dog’s age!! Have fun! I grew up going to Myrtle Beach for summer vacations back in the 70’s and 80’s. Back in those days we camped at the MB KOA. We camped there so many times through the years we knew which spots to reserve. My father would drop my mother and is 4kids off at the beach for the day and go back to the campsite and tinker around and relax (and imbibe), checking on is at lunch And picking us up later in the afternoon at which point we were sufficiently burned to a crisp. Just in time for my mother to make her famous “camp stew” (whatever was …
