Charlotte, NC-Our First Stinker...Pea-U

Charlotte, unless you’re a NASCAR fan which we're aren't, was a stinker. In hindsight, not sure why we picked it as a place to stop. We probably should have read the signs it was going to be a stinker because when we arrived at the campground our car battery died. We couldn't easily get into the vehicle with a dead battery with the doors, trunk and hood all hooked up to the electric. After some stress and frustration, we figured it out. Thanks to some very nice people we got into the car and got it jumped before Good Sams Roadside assistant came. We stayed at a campground by the Carowinds Amusement Park. Not because we were interested in going to an amusement park but because of it's proximity to the city. 650 acres of amusement, 60 "world class" rides, and we didn’t see one of them move in 2 days. Ha!

We had some serious fried chicken at Haberdish Restaurant in NoDa (stands for North Davidson neighbourhood). That was the highlight of Charlotte for us. Great ambience, awesome menu, great service, and their Georgia raised vegan fed chicken, rocked! We decided to leave a day early and head down to our Myrtle Beach campground.

Before, we spent the night in between at a Harvest Host winery in South Carolina - Cartersville Country Winery. https://cartersvillecountrywinery.com .

The place had a down country, homey, quirky appeal. Very quirky as a matter of fact! It was fun and entertaining. The people there were the epitome of southern hospitality. When we asked them if we were too late for the wine tasting, they said "not at all, you can taste the wine all night long". They had an outdoor covered patio with a glass refrigerator with a shelf of 12 bottles of wine for tasting and another shelf for bottles to purchase. They said if you are tasting it's $10 each and if you buy a bottle it's $10. Just put the money in the slot and if you don't have cash call the number on the refrigerator. An honour system. No we didn't take advantage. and we bought a bottle and drank it in the gazebo while Brad smoked a cigar. Life is good!

We met 2 sisters that have been traveling for 3 months. One was from Miami and the other South America. They started in Miami and went up through Canada and headed back to Florida. Another young couple pulled in with a renovated (I assume on the inside) school bus. Still looked like a school bus on the outside. They have been on the road for 3 years. As our daughter Kate said, it's just as interesting meeting different souls as it is visiting sites.

We arrived in Myrtle Beach today. Another rough landing....the forecast is calling for rain 3 of the next 5 days. I'm sure we will find something to do. Check out our next post and we'll let you know what we wound up doing. Thanks for following us. Peace!

My friends moved to the Charlotte area maybe 8 years ago. From CT to NC they adapted as best as possible and to my surprise are now NASCAR fans. I think I went once when we visited?? Not for me. I've visited NC a few times and I just remember one day walking in downtown Ashville someone (old guy with long-a$$ beard, looked like he should be on that show Moonshiners) uttered under his breath something like 'damn yankees'. Sorry dude, yes, us northern tourists are no good. :)
