This stretch of our journey had us both a little confused. We were in Minnesota, Wisconcin, then Michigan, then back again to Wisconsin! All in less than ten days. And, there were two time changes in between from central time to eastern time and then back to the central time zone. We were even a little goofier than usual. We're both still a little clouded about this leg of our journey. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Wisconsin was truly breathtaking and the Apostle Islands in Michigan were spectacular too! Let's dive in!
Our second Minnesota stop, and our first Lake Superior visit was to Duluth. We were in complete awe at the immense enormity of this Great Lake. The size of it was truly astonishing to us. We've never seen a lake that looked like an ocean. It was incredible!. Here are some pictures of our virgin great "Lakewalk"
Our walk took us to the Lift Bridge which is a Duluth landmark.
While there, we had a awesome but weird dinner at The Boat Club. Since a table wasn't available we asked if we could eat at the bar. We ordered dinner at the bar and after ordering and having a drink the host told Kathy, while Brad was in the bathroom, that our table was now available. Kathy accepted. The weird thing was that the bartender asked us to pay for our dinner tab before we even got our entrees. It could have been worse. Goofy Duluth restaurant experience but heck, the food was food.
We took a really chilly but splendid bikeride along the Lakewalk. It was windy and in the mid fifties that day. After some coaxing we took off. Kathy really stepped up on this bikeride. She rocked it! It was cold! Lake Superior is truly grand in every direction.
We hit a good Brewery, Hoops Brewing, and we had a surprisingly wonderful lunch at our campground restaurant called the Buffalo House. Yep, our campground had a restaurant. We were only in Duluth for two days. Next, we took the 90 minute drive to our next campground in state number two this week to Wisconsin.
Our camping spot was overlooking, and right on, Lake Superior. We were suppose to back-in to the spot but it was too beautiful not to pull-through so we could face the Great Lake every morning.
Yep, Brad is still working it out, this time the gym enviornment was A+, and yes, we had a small repair that went well!
Our two main objectives on this leg of our journey was to tour the Apostle Islands and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Hear forward we're going to limit the dialogue and just share the pictures and YouTube clips and let them do the talking for us (for a change :0) First, the Apostle Island cruise...it was a rainy day but it didn't take away from the experience.
Here are pics of Houghton Falls Nature Preserve which was part of the Apostle Island National Seashore and near our campground. The Falls were cool but the real pies-de-resistance was the Trail leading to Lake Superior.
Our next Apostle Island Lakeshore visit was to Madeline Island. We took our car on the ferry ride while toting our bikes.
Pictured Rocks is in Michigan and was literally picture perfect. We took a one and a half hour cruise. The tour guide had a name for every rock formation and there were more than a dozen of them. The colors and formations were massive and breath-taking at the same time. Check it out!
Our Pictured Rocks ground game...(hiking)
Our campground for Pictured Rocks was in Munising, Michigan right on Lake Superior. And, we're back to eastern standard time.
Our next stop will be Green Bay, WI. and, we'll be back to central time again. Our next blog will also include great visits to Milwaukee and Chicago.
What a strange long trip it's been. Thanks for reading down this far. Kathy and Brad
